Drone Deliveries: The Future of Logistics
SPS FulfillmentShare
It would be really nice to receive a package at home very quickly via a flying drone, wouldn't it? Well, it is no longer a technology dating back to some sci-fi movie, because several companies have already begun to experiment with these new deliveries that could revolutionize the world of logistics.
In this article we want to let you know all the advantages of drone deliveries and at the same time present you with all the challenges to overcome to make them happen. We at SPS believe a lot in this project and hope to be able to offer this type of service to our customers very soon.

The advantages of drone deliveries

First, let's see together what are some of the advantages of drone deliveries .
A first advantage is undoubtedly the speed of delivery . Think, in fact, that drones can cover considerable distances in very short times, furthermore, they do not "suffer" the effects of traffic and this is particularly advantageous especially in large crowded and busy cities.
Another advantage that comes to mind is also a reduction in shipping costs , because with "normal" deliveries that are made via courier, obviously vehicles that run on petrol or diesel are used and, as we know, fuel always has a certain cost. A drone, on the other hand, could also run simply on electricity and in general they are less expensive than a delivery vehicle and require less maintenance costs.
Another advantage is the possibility of making deliveries to remote areas more easily. From time to time, we have some of our customers complain that traditional couriers are unable to deliver to remote mountain areas. This problem can be completely eliminated thanks to drone deliveries, since they can easily overcome any obstacle.
The Challenges Behind Drone Deliveries

After reading the previous chapter, a spontaneous question now arises: but if there are all these advantages, why don't all the companies on the planet already use drones for deliveries? Well, the answer is that in reality drone deliveries also present challenges to overcome .
A first challenge is the law . Yes, you read that right. Drones have raised many regulatory questions. Governments are trying to establish rules to ensure the privacy of citizens, since these drones, equipped with cameras, can view everything from above.
Another issue that worries companies a lot is safety , since these devices could crash (even though they are designed not to do so) into other buildings, getting damaged and thus failing the delivery. Furthermore, the rain factor and other adverse weather conditions are still a bit of a taboo, since the drones currently available on the market are practically unable to make deliveries in these conditions (although Amazon is designing the MK30 drone that should be able to fly in case of rain).
Another challenge we thought about is the load capacity supported by a drone. At the moment, a drone can carry a package of just over 2Kg , so a package of rather small size and weight. But this is the problem that scares us the least, because with the current technology we would already be able to make drones capable of carrying loads that are decidedly larger.
Does anyone already do these?

After listing the advantages and disadvantages, the real question we can ask ourselves is: does anyone already make these deliveries with drones? The answer is yes!
As mentioned, Amazon does this through a service called Amazon Prime Air . But wait a second before you open Amazon and place an order with a drone, because they are currently only available in some areas of California and Texas and it looks like they will soon be available in Arizona.
In any case, Amazon's future project is to make deliveries in 30 minutes everywhere. An ambitious project, but not impossible, given the infinite power of this colossus. In addition, there is also very good news, because it seems that by the end of 2024 Amazon will also carry out drone delivery tests in Italy and the United Kingdom.
Besides Amazon, there are other companies. One that stands out is ZipLine , a drone delivery company that focuses on delivering pharmaceutical products to various parts of the world and especially to areas of Africa where it is really difficult to find medicines.
The SPS project

Ultimately, making deliveries with drones is undoubtedly the future of logistics, even if at this precise moment there is still some way to go, especially in Italy, to get there.
As you have already understood, we at SPS Fulfillment strongly believe in this project and we are looking forward to implementing drone deliveries within our company. We would like to be among the pioneering companies in Italy in this sector and we are certain that with the right commitment and the hard work of our tireless team , we will succeed!
